The August 8, 2015 edition of miamiok.com featured a story titled ‘Fairland Board to enforce junk motor vehicle city ordinance’ composed by Kimberly Barker with the following information: “A crowd of concerned citizens filled the Fairland City Council meeting regarding the storage of junk motor vehicles on property located on N. Locust Street. The property, owned by Henry Drake, has numerous vehicles, tires & other materials stored in plain view. Citizens are worried about the hazard to public health, safety and welfare of the residents and the overall beauty it takes away from the town.
Fairland Strategic Planning Committee chairman Jim Love says residents would like to clean up the community; something the Fairland citizens are very passionate about. Mayor Mark Goode thanked the crowd for showing their concern. The Fairland Board of Trustees went into executive session to discuss the property regarding the storage of the junk motor vehicles. No votes were taken in the session, but the council approved that the city ordinance will be enforced; the mayor and the city attorney will take steps to insure that the ordinances of the town of Fairland are enforced to the maximum extent.
Fairland Ordinance No. 2012-4 prohibits the keeping of junk automobiles. No person, firm, corporation, business or other entity shall park, store, leave or permit the parking, storing or leaving of any unlicensed junk motor vehicle upon any public property or right-of-way within the corporate limits. The ordinance also states if any junk motor vehicle is stored, it must be stored out of sight, whether in a garage or behind a minimum 5-ft. tall fence. Prior to receiving a citation for a 1st offense for violation of this ordinance, the person shall receive a written warning and ten (10) calendar days to remedy their violation before being subject to a fine. Attempts to reach Drake for comment were unsuccessful.”
